Almost with a whoosh, her hair tickled her shoulders. It was almost weird for the black haired beauty, she was so used to having long hair around her waist, so even now that it’s been years since it was cut off, she wasn’t used to the feel of shorter hair. Her eyes closed as she looked down at the artwork she was working on that day. Isuzu Sohma was an artist, not that many people knew this… Hatsuharu, Shigure and Tohru as far as Isuzu knew, knew about her talent. Oh wait, that wasn’t right… Kagura knew too.
The girl who was originally born cursed by the horse of the Chinese zodiac turned her eyes out the window to stare at the sunshine that was pouring through the open window. She wouldn’t have had the window open because of the air, but today it wasn’t cold. Isuzu was amazed that it was as warm as it was. Usually she would have gotten ill from the cold air around them, she got ill a lot. Something she cursed over, because she hated hospitals.
Moving the pencil onto the desk before her, Isuzu sighed a hefty sigh before closing her eyes visualising the next part of her drawing. No one would have guessed, but she was fond of drawing horses because… not only was she the one cursed with that animal, but horses were beautiful – usually she’d joke to herself, well of course, look at her – but she would never say anything like that out loud unless she was with Hatsuharu or Kagura.
They must have been the only two who knew the real Isuzu, mainly because Hatsuharu was her boyfriend and Kagura was – her best friend, by own admittance but not spoken out loud. Isuzu moved her hands, index fingers on the temples of her head. She didn’t know what to do. She hadn’t been here living at Kagura’s again, but only for a little while, because she was admitted back in hospital for a couple of months, but now she was better. At least that was what they had said at the hospital. She didn’t exactly feel that great, but she wasn’t going to say that – she just wanted out of the hospital.
Isuzu was not the type of person to talk to others unless she knew them that well, the only other person she had ever properly talked to – although she felt tricked into it – was that girl that had been living with Kyo, Yuki and Shigure – now married to Kyo. Tohru Honda. She had never been too fond of the brunette, but she was letting her into her life, slowly… Isuzu was never one to jump into things, why would she, she wasn’t going to let people in and hurt her like Akito had done once by pushing her out that window for loving Hatsuharu.
Picking up the paintbrush, she slowly placed it into the water jug she had earlier placed on the desk. The brush slowly gotten wetter and she moved the paint forward, the colour of the paint was brown. She didn’t like the colour brown because it looked very murky and ugly… she was most happy her horse form had been black, strong and independent as it wasn’t considered a colour but a shade. She looked back around the room and slowly stood up, her light blue sweatshirt dropping around her lap, where the mini-skirt she was wearing started.
She was just wondering what was going to happen today.

A sigh escaped her lips as the car started its route to the Somha estate; it seemed she would be visiting everyone alone once again. She wondered how she had let herself be talked into going to something else alone again; already she had been to a festival, her schools dance and a random get together with her school friends alone while Kyo had been busy at the dojo. The subtle black and white flash back started in her head the moment she had begun to think about it.
the phone rang like normal on the weekday calls from students and anyone wanting to get a hold of Kyo about the dojo, it seemed they never stopped even when it was suppose to be Tohru and Kyo time. Ever since they had moved here there had never once been a Tohru and Kyo time moment, though Tohru would never say anything since it would take a lot to help Kyo open his dojo. Since day one she had helped him every step of the way juggling school work while helping to set up things for him, even now after a few months of the same old thing nothing had ever slowed down.
“ mom what would you do in this position” she questioned the sky one day, her mother never would of put up with things like this. She knew the women would of stuck up for herself and made a day just for the two of them or at least show how left out she had been feeling. She was a outspoken women something Tohru had never been nor would she ever become. When the phone had rang and the voice on the other end had asked for her it was more shock and amazement then anything, she recognized Yuuki’s voice almost instantly. “ Yukki ! hey what are you doing !” “ calling you it looks like” “..oh..yeah right” “ I want to invite you and Kyo back to the estate this weekend, everyone misses you” “ oh that sounds wonderful “ “ ill send a car for the two of you Friday “” alright It was lovely talking to you Yukki see you Friday!”
she could have guessed that Kyo wouldn’t leave the dojo alone for three days, she asked him only once and his answer had been no. silently she packed up after making his dinner and another word about the matter had been said, angry with him Tohru had skipped making breakfast and left as he awoke from his slumber. He had given her a sad look and she had said goodbye and kissed his cheek before leaving him standing in the door way.
When she arrived at the gate no one was there to greet her, it seemed Yuuki wouldn’t be arriving for another hour. Everyone else seemed to be at work or out on the town, apparently Yuuki had failed to tell everyone she was here or he had planned to make it a secret and show her off after they had all arrived home.

Isuzu would have no clue over the thrill of excitement that was to take over what was also a very dull and dreadful looking day. It might have been blatantly hot and sunny, but to Isuzu, that just makes everything seem dull in the path that it might lead to. She had noticed Kagura acting awfully happy and springy today – almost as if something was to happen today and she was working hard to make sure that it was all going down so well.
“Sometimes I’ll never understand that girl.”
She sulked to herself as she wrapped her arms around her body, elbows on the desk before her as she remembered something that Hatsuharu had once told her. To open up more to the others around her and then she’ll be happier on the inside. Well she saw what happened when she opened up completely to her parents. They were meant to give her unconditional love – didn’t exactly go that way.
The girl took her hair in her hands, easy now that it was against her shoulders. Twiddling with a few strands she sighed. Isuzu realised that Hatsuharu was meaning Tohru, that she had tried to help her in the past, and that she should open up – because when Tohru and Kyo moved out, they all teased her – she had told them that she didn’t care if they left! Momiji and Hatsuharu just laughed and said that she was being defensive.
Maybe she was…
She wasn’t sure, she didn’t… like… people like Tohru. Well maybe she did, she liked Kagura – but Kagura was family – then again so is Tohru now that she married her cousin. God, everything was confusing and this particular girl doesn’t do well when she gets confused. It’s just not right for her to get so worked up, in her own mind. She closed her dark eyes for a couple of minutes to think today through. That was when it hit the ex-horse…
Tohru’s coming over today!
That’s would of course be why everyone was acting so weirdly! Kagura, Hatsuharu, Momiji – Momiji had acted as if the fair was coming into town! That would only have pointed to Tohru. Of course if she had some confirmation for this thought, she would have been very happy at the idea of the outsider girl coming to visit, because then she would have had someone to talk to, but again she wouldn’t wanna talk constantly about Kyo – she had that with Kagura when Kagura was hung up on the boy.
“And I thought today was going to be interesting enough without this.”

Though she couldn’t wait to see everyone arriving and not being attacked by all the Somha’s for a change had been rather relieving. She could tell there were signs that some of them knew she would arrive but apparently Yuuki had been sneaky in keeping her arrival time a secret, then again he was off as well maybe his math needed a little improvement? Then again they all probably thought Kyo would be coming with her, she supposed they figured that they lived like a normal couple would. Wasn’t it these months that she and Kyo were to be plastered to each other with kisses and whispers of embarrassing actions?
With a long sigh Tohru bopped her head “ I missed them all why am I acting to sappy all of the sudden” a smile moved over her face as she started forward to the porch, taking off her shoe’s Tohru started around the estate looking over all the things that had and hadn’t changed. She missed the place a little but not as much as Yuuki’s house, she couldn’t get over how she had gone from being so in love with Yuuki to running off married to Kyo. But young love seemed to be like that and after the bond between she and yuuki had been nothing more than motherly love to a child the idea of thinking of him as a boyfriend seemed rather unappealing.
Tohru had thought everyone had gone but as she passed by a window she couldn’t help but notice a figure inside, stopping she glanced in only to stop Isuzu. Putting a smile on her face Tohru tipped forward only to give a gentle knock on her window, with a wave she smiled “ Well hello !” she chirped “ I arrived and no one was home so I figured Yuuki hadn’t told anyone I was coming, I suppose that was nice of him then again I happen to be quite lonely by my self “ with a giggle she turned to look around “ didn’t you go out with them or are they off doing normal every day things?” maybe she could get her to talk?
Tohru already knew that Isuzu didn’t like her or wasn’t fond of her for that matter, it was something she couldn’t help. People weren’t forced to like her and she wouldn’t push anyone on the matter, but she wouldn’t stop being herself because of it she would be nice to Isuzu even if the girl out right told her she hated her.

Isuzu was blatantly in a world of her own as she was staring ahead of the window and towards the trees outside, this was when a hand knocked on the door – and that was why she jumped back almost shocked – terror in her eyes as she stared ahead before realising who the brunette was; Tohru. So Isuzu was right with her assumptions. This was going to be fun, she moved her hand slamming shut her art book because she didn’t want the outsider, even if she was married to Kyo, to see what she was doing.
“Can’t hear you.”
Isuzu lied as she stared at the talking girl even though she could understand every single word and syllable to come forth from her lips. When she closed her eyes, her lips not forming a smile – if anything her lips became a larger frown. She wasn’t impressed by the sudden arrival of Tohru. Moving her hand upwards, she slowly opened the window so that she could talk back to her:
“Honestly I haven’t a clue where anyone is; don’t care.”
Tohru annoyed Isuzu and anyone could see that. Other than that though, she guessed apart from the constant talking and the way she looked, Isuzu could possible accept Tohru one day – but that wasn’t going to be one day soon. If she kept talking to Tohru though, the black haired girl was only going to be kept pestered at:
“If you must know, I saw Kagura running around like she was on a caffeine kick a couple of hours ago, something about a dinner. I wasn’t invited to it. Never am, cause I’m not a very sociable person.”
She sulked; leaning back against her chair, her body curved slightly upwards so that she could stare out of the window, how bored did she have to be? Was god punishing her by bringing Tohru back into her life so suddenly after they moved? Why… why…. Why….

Isuzu jumped back as Tohru appeared in front of her window, blinking Tohru wondered if she had been that scary. Pondering it for a moment she wondered what she would of done if she had been watching out the window only for someone to appear in front of her suddenly. She probably would of jumped as well maybe even ran or hit the person out of reflex, she would of felt bad after words . she continued to talk like normal until Isuzu spoke “ Cant hear you” , Tohru’s mouth stopped for a moment “oh that could be a problem”
The window slowly opened as Isuzu opened the window “Honestly I haven’t a clue where anyone is ; don’t care”, Tohru paused for a moment if she hadn’t been able to hear her why would she be answering the question she had just asked before the window had opened? Apparently Isuzu still hated her like she always had, almost everyone in the Sohma family had hated her in the beginning but they seemed to come to like her after a while. ““If you must know, I saw Kagura running around like she was on a caffeine kick a couple of hours ago, something about a dinner. I wasn’t invited to it. Never am, cause I’m not a very sociable person.”
“oh, well if you want I invite you to dinner with us if your hungry that is I am sure they wont mind, and maybe Kagura is still around some where I’ll leave you to your ….well whatever you were doing see you later “ with a wave Tohru smiled bright and headed off towards the dinning hall, maybe someone was there cooking ?

“oh, well if you want I invite you to dinner with us if your hungry that is I am sure they wont mind, and maybe Kagura is still around some where I’ll leave you to your ….well whatever you were doing see you later “
Isuzu listened to every word that Tohru said to her and she looked away slightly, trying to hide the fact she was pretty glad that Tohru had invited her to the “secluded” dinner where Yuki and the others hadn’t invited her too, then again, they do know how she was – how she acted – especially around the outcast of the Sohma family.
Even if Tohru had the last name Sohma through marriage, it just – it didn’t change anything between them…
“I just lost my inspiration.”
She moved her artwork back into her drawer and she stood away from the table and walked across to the door and moved her hands to the door, if she were to leave… and go to this dinner, what would she do? She could sit in the corner isolated and not talk to anyone like usual. Isuzu didn’t know, maybe Hatsuharu would be there.
So she pushed the door open and walks out towards the grounds of Kagura’s house. She walked past some random people, gaining strange looks that would gain her attention, and she hated that. She hated people staring at her! Just like they would do when her parents left her, like they did when Hatsuharu carried her home that day… she hated being watched.
”What are you staring at!”
Isuzu screamed, clutching her fist, to show that she was just as mad as she used to be and she knew that perhaps Tohru would have heard her and noticed she had walked out and came to follow her, great, obviously that would mean attention from Kyo’s wife… she sighed and walked hurriedly towards where Tohru went. How could she make herself noticed like that, how stupid was she.

“ I just lost my inspiration” well that had been quite rude , with a sigh Tohru continued on about her way looking for any Sohma that might venture home early out of excitement. It had been a long time since she had been to the Sohma estate alone, the last time she had been here it was by accident. None of the Sohma ‘s seemed to leave her by her lonesome for long unless they were like Isuzu and hated her with a passion. She couldn’t help how she was and she wasn’t about to change it just for one person, she liked being kind to everyone she didn’t find anything wrong with being nice and unlike most people who faked being nice she meant it. What good would it have done her to be rude , cruel or mean to another living creature they hadn’t ever done anything like that to her and what if she needed them later on. would it not pay to be kind instead of cruel?
A sudden scream filtered passed Tohru “ what are you staring at!” turning back she spotted Isuzu who had emerged from her room only to yell at a few people who had been looking at her. what did she honestly expect from them? when one such as her never left her room or always sulked around avoiding people they would stare merely from the pure shock. But it wasn’t right to stare at people she knew she wouldn’t want to be stared at either, turning back around she ignored the girl knowing anymore fawning over her would only result in more hate from her.
