The point of this role-play is to play out an alternative version of what happens in the Death Note canon.
In order to achieve this the plot is going to pick up from the point where the FBI agents have entered Japan and have not yet been killed by Kira. This position in the plot was chosen early on to give more leeway into changing the overall course of the plot from an early stage.
Concerning characters that died in canon, there is no definite answer as to whether or not they will die in this role-play. This also applies to characters that did not die in canon. It more or less depends upon what is convenient to move the entire plot forward or what happens between the players.
As for changes to the plot, the main differences planned for the beginning is to introduce a wider range of competition for those trying to capture Kira and those that follow him. There will be additional Death Notes in play as well as organizations aside from the Japanese Kira Task Force that are trying to stop Kira. The additional forces to each side are in no way required to work with the originals and there is no guarantee that they are to become allies. It more or less depends upon the players what the overall outcome will be.
